Belbin is very specialised, and perhaps best saved for project teams, rather than teams of people who work together doing a similar (if not the same) role.
Team Player Styles were defined by Glenn Parker in his book Team Players and Team Work. They can be a really good way to look at the different strengths people bring to a team without putting them into very fixed categories, as it focuses on typical behaviour rather than fixed personality traits.
This questionnaire and handout help people to understand the strengths and limitations of their preferred approach, and also provides insight into how other might perceive them.
