DESIGNING your virtual session well is of course, massively important. If it’s designed well, it will flow, add real value and should be easy to deliver. There are lots of resources available in the members area to help you to that.
But of course virtual facilitation is not EXACTLY the same as face-to-face facilitation. Yes, the core skills remain (as they do with design) but some things become more important, some things less important, and there are few additional things to take into account too.
Neil Shorney of KnowledgeBites has supported me on the Designing for Digital Delivery Programme in the past when corporate clients wanted an extra module on virtual facilitation skills. He ran a 2-hour workshop covering a range of basic and more advanced skills, which he has allowed me to share with you. If you watch it and like it, please like and comment on the video.
The objectives of the workshop are:
- Identify who your learners are and what they need from the subject matter
- Use four different trainer personas to engage the audience
- Adapt traditional facilitation techniques for virtual use
- Use virtual-only tools to engage groups of all sizes
- Plan your approach for a specific training groups
