Training Design is what links strategy and vision to specific behaviour change and results, so it's VITAL we get it right
But training design is rarely covered in formal qualifications and glossed over in traditional Train the Trainer courses.
So L&D professionals have to work out how to do it for themselves in a process of trial and error.
But surely, design is too important to risk getting it wrong?
If you want to learn to design training in a PRACTICAL way, this 6-part blended programme will help.
Even if you’re an experienced L&D professional, you’ll learn WHY certain things you already do work well (so you can keep doing them) and what ELSE you can do to make your training design better, easier or quicker.
Programme Objectives
By completing this programme you will be able to:

Follow a robust process for designing live training events

Feel confident that the training you design will deliver real results, no matter who is delivering it.
Module 1
Introduction and Overview
In this short introductory session we will get to know each other, introduce the ADDIE Model and discuss our own experience and challenges so the programme reflects your needs.
This module is delivered live.
Module 2
Analysis
In this live session we will explore how to discover what the real training need is, and whether training is the answer. Then we can identify the issue that needs to be addressed, and what success will look like.
This module is delivered live.
Module 3
Design
This module helps you to decide what to cover, to what depth’ in what format and in what order. How to create a top-level outline to act as the blueprint for more detailed design, and considering how to ensure the transfer of learning.
It’s delivered via a self-study module AND a live session.
Module 4
Develop
Develop is the part that most designers of live training miss out. In this blended module we will learn how to use the outline to design the session(s) in detail taking into account accelerated learning principles and the best ways to bring learning to life.
Again, this is a mixture of self-study and live workshop.
Module 5
Implement
Usually associated with delivery, we will focus on the materials that need to be created and HOW to design them well so facilitation is easy AND in line with the original analysis, and what the difference is between designing for face-to-face or virtual delivery.
This module is delivered live (with the option of additional self-study)
Module 6
Evaluate
Finally, we will consider how we evaluate our design and also have the opportunity to evaluate and give feedback on each other’s work AND the programme.
This will be delivered live.

FAQs
How are the live sessions run?
All live sessions are run virtually via Zoom so you can join us from anywhere.
What is GiraffePad?
GiraffePad will act as our learning hub. You WILL need to create a FREE account. Within GiraffePad, you will be able to chat to fellow participants securely, share resources, access other materials and find links to our live sessions. Learn more about GiraffePad HERE.
What if I can't make a live session?
Live sessions will be recorded and accessible for 3 months. However, due to the sequential nature of the programme, AND it’s practical nature it is strongly recommended that you attend in person. However, when life gets in the way, you can catch up via the recordings.
Do I have to complete the online courses?
Access to the online courses is included in the fee AND they include lots of detailed advice. If you can’t complete them in the timescale recommended, it won’t preclude you from joining us for the live sessions associated with Design and Develop. However, for us to make those session practical, it helps if we can focus on discussion and application rather than providing information.
If I put my name on the waiting list, when will dates be confirmed?
Dates will be confirmed by the end of November. They are LIKELY to be Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday mornings.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes – you can make 4 payments of £200 (+VAT) rather than 1 payment of £795. (VIP members pay £150 + VAT).
Do I get a qualification?
No. This is a PRACTICAL course, by a practitioner for practitioners. Getting the programme accredited would simply add unnecessary admin and more cost. However, you CAN get a certificate outlining what has been covered and CPD hours invested.
