A Session Plan is the most crucial thing to design for any live training event. Yet many facilitators fail to create one, feeling it's unnecessary. Yet putting in the work up front to design a proper session plan, reaps very many benefits later in the design AND delivery process.
In the ADDIE Model of Training Design (Analysis, Design. Develop, Implement, Evaluate) writing a session plan is a fundamental element of the DEVELOP phase (or detailed design)
In this short course I explain what a session plan, why it's so important, and lift the bonnet on my own process so you can take a similar approach.
If you find that:
- You never seem to run the same course twice (even though you should)
- Your prep time takes too long
- Other people struggle to deliver the courses you write as they should
- You need to convince stakeholders that your course covers what it should
- You need to prove to an awarding body that your course meets their criteria
You will find this course useful.
Included with the course are downloadable checklists, how-to guides and templates so you can design your own training course with confidence.
What's the Format?
The course is video led, and is supplemented with short exercises and downloads. You will need to set aside about 45 minutes in total to complete the course - but you don't need to do it all at once. You can dip in and out as you please.
The course assumes that you have done your initial consultation/analysis AND scoped out your content at a top line, and have an outline to work from. The Plan an Effective Training Session Course takes you through this process, so you may find it useful to complete that first - though it isn't essential. The Design an Effective Workshop explores all other factors to take into account when designing a workshop and includes a section on creating your session plan, so if you have done this course already, you probably don't need to do this one.
